Tie My Tubes: A Radio Documentary confronts the obstacles preventing women from choosing sterilization for themselves.
A majority of healthcare providers do not consider sterilizing a woman -- especially if she's never had children. Sterilization is safe, inexpensive, and prevents both abortion and unplanned-for children. Why are women rewarded for having children, but not having them is shrouded in taboo? Why is it so hard to get your tubes tied?
Our experimental radio diary will follow 23-year-old Brie Ripley on her quest to own her own body. On the way, we'll be talking to women also seeking sterilization, healthcare providers, reproductive justice heroes, eugenics historians, evangelical activists, and more.
Premiering Summer 2016.
